Traveling Basketball Information Bison Backcourt Club The Bison Backcourt Club is a non-profit organization with the primary purpose of promoting the Bison boys basketball program for grades 4 - 12. Philosophy of Program The Bison Backcourt Club is dedicated to the promotion of traveling youth basketball for boys within District 877 boundaries. Our primary goal is to provide fair competition and a learning environment that enhances individual player development and team play. Traveling Season The traveling season begins with tryouts in mid-September and ends with State Tournaments in early March. Practices begin in late October with tournament play beginning in November. Tryout Format Players are evaluated and chosen on an individual skill, position skill, and team play. Emphasis is placed on player attitude and discipline. Number of teams for each grade level will be based on the number of boys that try out along with talent levels. Practices Practices will be held 1-2 times per week. School activities will be considered to minimize conflicts. Team coaches will contact their players with practice times and practice locations. 4th grade will compete in 7 tournaments – approx. 21 games. 5th & 6th grades will compete in 9 tournaments – approx. 27 games. 7th & 8th grades will compete in 11 tournaments – approx. 33 games. Scrimmages and extra practices may be scheduled during the season. Player Participation Fee All players selected to participate in the traveling program are required to pay a non-refundable player fee at the mandatory Tip Off Meeting. The fees for the ‘09-‘10 season are as follows: 4th grade - $125.00 per player 5th & 6th grade - $150.00 per player 7th & 8th grade - $175.00 per player Discounts to families with multiple players in the program will be $10.00 per player. All checks are to be written out to the Bison Backcourt Club and are due at the Tip Off Meeting. Players will not receive their uniform until the player fee is paid in-full or other arrangements have been made with the BBC Treasurer or Board. Uniforms A $50.00 uniform deposit is required and due at the Tip Off Meeting. This deposit is refundable and will be shredded when the uniform is returned at the conclusion of the traveling season in good condition. Parent Participation The boys traveling basketball program is run on a strictly volunteer basis. In order to fund the program, the Bison Backcourt Club hosts 2 - 3 tournaments each season. If your player/players are chosen for a team, a volunteer requirement of 8 hours per player must be fulfilled during our hosted tournaments. The required hours can be divided into 4 hour shifts. A $100.00 volunteer deposit is required and due at the Tip Off Meeting. This deposit is refundable and will be shredded at the conclusion of the traveling season if the required 8 hours has been fulfilled.
